ProVita Marks Brain Injury Awareness Month

Patients, families and staff have joined together at ProVita facilities in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to mark this year’s Brain Injury Awareness Month. On Tuesday 24th March everyone was invited to ‘go green’ (green is the colour associated with Brain Injury Awareness Month) by dressing in green or wearing a green ribbon to show solidarity for people across the globe who suffer from the effects of brain injury. Presentations in Arabic were held on the same day for patients and their families designed to improve education and help to raise awareness about the causes, symptoms, prevention strategies and treatments related to brain injury. The sessions were undertaken by Dr. Mohammed Saad Othman in Abu Dhabi and Dr. Mohammad Al Masri in Al Ain. Both sessions received a high turnout of patients, families and staff and everyone also enjoyed seeing the results of the handmade banners competition, in which staff were asked to design and make their own banner highlighting the cause. Brain Injury Awareness Month is an initiative of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). According to the BIAA, each year an estimated 2.4 million children and adults in the United States sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and another 795,000 individuals sustain an acquired brain injury (ABI) from non-traumatic causes. In the UAE, ProVita provides state of the art long-term care for ventilated patients and those requiring continuous medical and nursing intervention for serious medical conditions including brain injury. Michael Davis, CEO of ProVita said, “brain injury presents a number of huge challenges for patients and their caregivers worldwide and it is very important to raise awareness and promote further education wherever possible. At ProVita we focus on providing world-class care, as well as improving the patients’ quality of life.”
