Abu Dhabi: Sponsored by UAE’s leading rehabilitation and long-term care providers, ProVita International Medical Centers and Cambridge Medical & Rehabilitation Centers, the 2015 Neuro Rehabilitation Conference concluded its activities yesterday March 7th.

Inaugurated by H.E Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development, the conference brought together medical leaders in all fields of Neuro Rehabilitation from around the globe with the aim of advancing research, treatment as well as applying modern best practices both locally and regionally.

Addressing delegates and exhibitors, H.E Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan recognized the UAE’s various efforts in advancing healthcare under the guidance of H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and continued support of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His Excellency also expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, exhibitors and delegates and recognized the importance of advancing the UAE and gulf region in the field of Neuro Rehabilitation; with the aim of elevating the life of those with disabilities. “This conference signals the need for all segments of society to work together to improve the general health of their population and reduce the number of patients needing such treatments”, His Excellency said.

Chairing the conference was Medical Director for Rehabilitation at Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Centers and Consultant Physician for ProVita International Medical Centers , Dr. Sabahat Wasti. Speaking to attendees at the opening ceremony, Dr. Wasti stressed the significance of the conference in light of the growing need and current advances in Neuro Rehabilitation in the Gulf. Dr. Wasti also gave a lecture on preventative care in long-term neurological disability where he shed light on the definition on neuro disabilities and their adverse affect on the international community as well as ways to build and sustain preventative measures.

Also speaking at the conference, under the patronage of ProVita and Cambridge, was prominent Harvard Professor Dr. Ross Zafonte, Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs Research and Education at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Zafonte’s lecture centred on traumatic brain injury clinical trials where he covered lessons learned in both acute and post-acute trial cases.
